Do shampoos work like commercials claim they do?

I thought shampoos were to clean the hair, but I am always watching commercials or seeing shampoos in the store that claim much more than that. They claim the shampoo can volumize, lock in moisture, reduce frizz, prevent breakage, and ect. It seems a lot for hair soap.
