I had an engagement ring stolen by movers....?

do you think calling local pawn shops the pawn shop owner would be honest and tell me if my ring was there or would that put him out of money since he bought the stolen goods. Do you think i should act like a customer looking for a ring and try to spot out mine(i have the certification number that is engraved) the local police said they will check pawn shops but i dont think a pawn shop guy would let them know they have that ring or do you think they will? also do pawn shop guyz try to not but things they think are stolen?
