Cannot access text box in "Yahoo Messenger". Window is too long--vertically--to type in.?

My buddy has a different version than I do. The text box to type in is way below my "Start Menu" bar--cannot click in it after sending an audible to contact her. When I attempt to type it does not register in the window--I get that Windows familiar "Bong" which tell me I have not access the text space in which to type. Attempting to click and drag the Yahoo frame does not move the window. What other way can I aleviate this problem?
