you are correct in that there is no discernible beginning to the universe, and although the idea of God seems to fit nicely into that gap, my question to you is, why do you think only the Christian God can fit into that gap? Christianity does not have a monopoly on God nor the word God. And if it thinks it does, I will have to say that it doesn't.
